ABAGyn Procedural Cautions

ABAGyn strongly discourages the use of electrocautery. This technique commonly used to control bleeding in general gynecology surgery causes unacceptable damage to skin, soft tissue and the important small nerves of the female genitalia.

ABAGyn strongly discourages the use of free beam laser energy on the skin of labia unless such energy is applied in a random pattern sparing the majority of the epithelium (skin). Other use of such energy may result in aberrant anatomy and nerve injury.

ABAGyn strongly discourages the use of “cut and suture” as the primary means of treating vaginal relaxation. Such techniques, typically used for prolapse surgery, do not foster the in-growth of new healthy tissue and are prone to the creation of anatomic deformity.
